Explosive situation

The Himalayan Times 27 January 2012   The coalition government continues to make irresponsible and undemocratic acts one after another undermining the democratic norms and values. Such acts have created unwanted confrontation among the major political parties in the CA who were and are supposed to be cohesively working towards the completion of peace process and drafting of new constitution by the middle of July 2012. Instead, they seem to be entangling in unnecessary verbal wars and blame games creating unhealthy political environment at such a time when they had to be spending their valuable time on timely finishing the twin tasks mandated by the people. Looking closely at the immoral political acts of senior leaders of major political parties, it seems that the Nepali people, who had blindly supported them during II Jana Andolan, continue to get suffered more and have even more difficult days ahead. PUBLIC FURY

The Kathmandu Post 27 January 2012  THE Kathmandu denizens had to forcefully observe yet another day valley closure called by 13 student unions affiliated to several political parties including Maoist against the government’s recent petrol price hike (“Tide of public fury against petro price hike, fuel shortage rises” January 25, Page one) . Was it simply a political ploy being staged to deceive mass population who are furious over the government’s un-friendly decisions? The opposition should have instead raised the public-related issue in the parliament, Rai Biren Bangdel Maharajgunj, Kathmandu

CRIMINAL MP

The Kathmandu Post 20 January 2012   KUDOS to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) for its bold step to arrest Shyam Sunder Gupta CA lawmaker, for his alleged involvement in masterminding abduction of Pawan Sanghai (“Gupta the “mastermind”, Court send him in custody” January 18, Page one) . It is hoped that this is the beginning of the long haul chase to put all real culprits behind bars, no matter what positions they hold. The MPCD should continue to show its guts to go after other high profile criminals, who are still under the protection of political parties and wandering around enjoying the fruits of the state coffer, and put them behind bars too. CA lawmakers found to be involved in such criminal acts should be immediately stripped of their entitlement. If such provisions are not in the Interim Constitution, then the constitution should be amended accordingly considering the supremacy of CA. The people are extremely frustrated seeing the criminal lawmakers go un...
