Expel corrupt leaders
On May 28, 2008, the newly elected Constituent Assembly declared Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, unconstitutionally abolishing the 240 year-old monarchy. Since then, much water has flown down the Bagmati River. It has been five years since the existence of the three levels of government, namely, federal, provincial and local following the three tiers of elections held as per the constitution. During these five years, not all of these governments seem to be functioning as expected by the people of the republic. Frustrations continue to grow among the people looking at the unstable government, especially at the provincial and federal levels and their poor performance.EARN ONLINE JUST BY CLICKING ADS
Most of the unwanted political dramas were staged at the federal level by the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) due to the egoistic, self-centred and irresponsible political acts of its senior leaders. Its government failed to complete its five-year term. The rupture at the then NCP at the centre had severely affected the function of some of the provincial level governments. Frequent changes of the chief ministers and ministers due to factional politics at the centre undermined the importance and necessity of the provincial governments, resulting in the growing frustrations among the local people towards the federal structure. Most of the provincial governments failed to meet the expectation of the local population due to their poor performances.NEPALI POLITICS
The other dark side of federalism has been the growing level of corruption at all the government levels. Inappropriate planning and budgeting and untimely implementation of development projects proved to be one of the weaknesses of the provincial governments. The involvement of chief ministers, ministers and bureaucrats in corruptions have awfully contributed to raising the people’s voices against the existence and importance of the provincial level governments. Is it enough simply to ask the chief minister to resign after his name was linked to a corruption scandal “Upendra Yadav asks Madhes CM to resign” (THT, Aug 24, page 1)? Has any leader been expelled from the party until now if found involved in corruptions? Any political party can make political history by expelling leaders from the party if found involved in corruption cases rather than simply asking them to step down.EARN JUST BY CLICKING ADS
