Unmanaged republic
Nepal seems to be heading towards unmanageable republic state when closely looking at its weakening executive, legislative and judiciary branches of the universally accepted norms of democracy. It has been practicing one way or the other form of democratic for the last three decades since multiparty democracy was established following the promulgation of the 1990 constitution. All the major parties namely, the NC, the UML, and the other fringe parties have ruled the country without much vigour. Instead, almost all the well-established state owned industries that were established prior to 1990, which employed thousands of people, were sold at scrap value.
Since then, much water has flown down the Bagmati River. However, no significant changes had taken place in the social, economic and political field of the country as expected by the common people. Following the promulgation of the 2015 constitution, people had high hopes of their country moving towards peace and prosperity as promised by the major political parties and their senior leaders. But, they have failed to keep their promises and instead have pushed the country more towards miserable and chaotic situation.
High-level corruption, mismanagement of the development projects, inter and intra- party factional politics, egoistic political activities of the senior leaders, poor handling of COVID-19 pandemic, external interference in the state affairs, among others, are worrying and frustrating. These unproductive and unfortunate political and social environments have contributed to growing people’s dissatisfaction against the senior political leaders’ irresponsible and anti-nationalistic political acts.
