Stop being foreign agents
It will not be surprising to see another coalition government in the near future based on the interest of foreign powers. That is how Nepali politics works, and the trend has been going on for decades. The people have been experiencing most unproductive politics since the last 15 years. Many unconstitutional moves were taken in the name of the peoples’ movement and 12 point agreement that took place in a foreign land in between the then seven party alliance and the Maoists.
Intra-party feud and the politics for power are responsible for the political mess. Having said this, why doesn’t the NC that claims to be the champion of safe-guarding democracy convince the other parties to go for a mid-term or early polls either under its leadership or by supporting the Oli-led government to seek a fresh mandate of the people? If the NC were to take such a bold and decisive action, it is for sure that the people will appreciate its role and might even give it a landslide victory. However, simply holding a mid-term or early election, without considering the growing dissatisfaction of the people with the existing constitution and political structure, might invite more political uncertainty and an unstable government.
Considering this situation, a favourable option for like-minded senior leaders of major political parties would be to go for conciliatory politics by taking bold steps of either amending the current constitution or reviving and amending the 2047 constitution to accommodate issues and concerns of all the political parties, nationalists, pro-royalists, disgruntled groups and the general public. Otherwise, sooner or later, the country might plunge into uncontrollable political mess that will allow foreign powers and local foreign agents to meddle in the national politics, thus making the nation vulnerable to losing its national identity.
The major political parties should be serious about these issues before it is too late.
