Politically failed leaders

The nation is likely to be held a political hostage by the on-going political mess for some more time as the senior leaders of CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Nepali Congress (NC) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP-N) engage themselves heavily in self-centred, irresponsible power politics. They are finding it difficult to trust each other because of their past unethical and opportunist political acts “Mistrust for Dahal leaves JSP-N in dilemma” (THT, 23 March, Page 1). Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP), both the CPN-UML and CPN-MC are now on their own.

It is known to everybody that all these political parties are heavily infected with fictional politics. For example: one faction led by Ramchandra Poudel of the NC continues with its effort to oust the Oli-led government whereas the other faction led by Sher Bahadur Deuba says “NC will not join govt: NC President Deuba” (THT online, 23 March). Likewise, one faction of the JSP-N opines that the party would support the party that would fulfil their demands, while the other faction is saying that the party should not allow Oli to remain in power.

Surprisingly, the CPN-MC continues to support the Oli government even after getting a big legal blow from the apex court. In fact, the CPN-MC seems to be finding itself in political dilemma and losing its grounds for a number of its past dubious political performances. Its recent decision to revive its Young Communist League (YCL) wing, which was dissolved following CPM-MC’s entry into mainstream politics, is an indication of its frustration and desperation. Sooner or later, once the people realize the true colours of all the senior leaders, they will have a hard time facing the people.
