Corrupt state machinery
Vs selfless Satyagrahi
It is so sad to see this
government not fulfilling its promises reflected in the past agreements reached
with Dr. Govind KC who is now in his 19th hunger strike asking the
Oli government to abide by the previous agreements. Why the government is ignoring
Dr. KC’s hunger strike for so long has been the public concern. Is the
government on the path of being arrogant and autocratic government as opined by
constitutional experts and leaders of the main opposition? Is it possible to
imagine so in this 21st century? Is the Oli led government imagining
to supress the voice of the people and running the country with iron claws?
KC has staged 18 rounds of hunger
strikes in the last eight years. Every government headed by the NC, the then
UML, the then Maoist Centre and their coalition government in the past had signed
agreements with him to end his hunger strikes. None of these previous
governments were sincere to implement their agreements. The doctor ended his
hunger strike every time hoping the governments would be sincere to implement agreements.
But, those agreements have been hardly implemented.
It is known to everybody that Dr.
KC has been putting forward his demands in favour of the people who have been
deprived of basic health services especially in the remote areas. It was due to
his untiring effort and firm determination that the National Medical Education
Bill was prepared. The ruling Nepal Communist Party, however, presented a
different bill and passed through the House in January last year, ignoring an
agreement reached with KC who had demanded that the bill be passed in its
original form without any changes that were made to suit some interest groups.
Establishment of at least one
state-run teaching hospital in each province and conducting MBBS classes at the
Karnali Academy of Health Sciences are among the demands of KC. Until now, the
government has shown no interest to implement these demands instead it is still
trying to ignore them and calm him down forever by not showing any interest to
his deteriorating health.
How sad and unfortunate!
