Self Defense Against COVID 19

Self Defense Against COVID-19  It seems that this dangerous and easily transmitted virus will be around for a longer period than we had thought. Although I have intentionally started ignoring news and other information related to this pandemic, but, I keep continuing updated myself about the self-defense mechanisms through various sources.   I continue to do my morning walk, buying vegetables and fruits from usual places where I see no buyers around. I always try to maintain social distancing while doing my morning walk. I never pass through narrow lanes. Before going out, I sanitize my hands thoroughly and put my surgical mask and cap and my morning walk outfits. After coming back home, I walk straight to the terrace and put my outfits in the sun. All the vegetables and fruits also enjoy sun for some time. Ha..ha. I thought it would be helpful just to freshen up your mind with some of the following WHO tips and take simple precautionary measures to distance awa...

Country heading towards catastrophe

Country heading towards catastrophe It seems that the government has lost its grip over control of rapid increase of Covid 19 in the country. As reported in the media, it has not been able to increase the number of tests at a time when it should have increased the number of tests considering rising number of infected cases around the country. When the government decided to ease and even lift lockdown a few days ago, the movement of people and vehilces has been uncontrollable. This situation has been favourable for rapid increase of infected cases. The government did not put forward any effective measures in controlling the pandemic from the beginning. It has now become clear that the government, which never took any serious effort to fight the pandemic, has no proper plans to respond to the disease.     People sleeping outside Sukraraj Hospital for PCR test         People in queue in front of Sukraraj Hospital for PCR test.     ...

Corrupt state machinery Vs selfless Satyagrahi

Corrupt state machinery Vs selfless Satyagrahi It is so sad to see this government not fulfilling its promises reflected in the past agreements reached with Dr. Govind KC who is now in his 19 th hunger strike asking the Oli government to abide by the previous agreements. Why the government is ignoring Dr. KC’s hunger strike for so long has been the public concern. Is the government on the path of being arrogant and autocratic government as opined by constitutional experts and leaders of the main opposition? Is it possible to imagine so in this 21 st century? Is the Oli led government imagining to supress the voice of the people and running the country with iron claws? KC has staged 18 rounds of hunger strikes in the last eight years. Every government headed by the NC, the then UML, the then Maoist Centre and their coalition government in the past had signed agreements with him to end his hunger strikes. None of these previous governments were sincere to implement thei...

Adios to Ang Rita Sherpa

Adios to Ang Rita Sherpa It is a universal truth that no one is immortal in this materialistic world. One day s(h)e has to leave this wonder world either for heaven or hell which is a philosophical assumption and or a religious belief. However, somebody will be remembered for long for her or his noble deeds left behind.   Ang Rita Sherpa, popularly and widely known as Snow Leopard, was among them who has left behind his legacy of climbing Mount Everest 10 times in his life time without using bottled oxygen and will always be remembered for his audacious achievements in the mountaineering history. His record is still unbroken.  Born in the remote mountain village of Yillajung in eastern Nepal in 1948, Ang Rita was 15 years old when he first started working as a porter. He quickly rose through the ranks to become a guide - summiting some of Nepal's highest mountains. He was among the first Sherpa guides to receive international fame for his accomplishments and an entr...

Cease fire in the ruling party

Cease fire in the ruling party It seems to me that the tug of war, which was going on for some time, between the two chairpersons and other senior leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) seems to have been settled for the time being. The whole drama that was going on was nothing but to fulfill their vestigial interests. It was very unfortunate to see them playing factional politics simply for the sake of power sharing when the country and the people have been badly suffered from Coved 19.   The end of this drama was temporarily possible after the six member team made a recommendation that PM Oli would lead the government for the full five-year term and Dahal would lead the party with an expanded role as “executive chairman”. They both got their shares. However, the concerns of other senior leaders are yet to be addressed which might be another cause for next political drama to stage after the festive seasons will be over. In fact, the ruling party has made democracy...

Where is the opposition?

Where is the opposition? We were so excited to see the government with almost two thirds majority in the political history of Nepal following the completion of three level of general elections as per the new constitution promulgated in 2015.   We were tired and frustrated with the past unstable political situation assuming that the country would need a stable political environment with strong government for long lasting peace and prosperity.  We assumed that this two thirds majority powerful government would fulfil all the promises it had made to the people during the elections. But, it has failed in all fronts. It has not even been able to deliver basic services to the people’s expectations looking at its way of governing the nation until today. This powerful government of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has already completed, with poor performance, its two and half years of its mandated full five-year term, something that never had happened in the political his...

Sufferings of mentally ill people

Sufferings of mentally ill people I t was really unfortunate to read the news about the people with mental illness have been deprived of their medicines and counselling due to pandemic corona virus. These people need to take their medicines regularly as per their doctors’ advice and regular counselling depending on the severity of the level of their mental illness. Otherwise, their health conditions start deteriorating causing severe consequences. Unlike the other patients, they cannot buy their medicines without doctor’s prescriptions. Doctors say that discontinuation of psychiatric medication could lead patients to a psychotic, manic or severely depressed state. There is also the risk of patients taking their own lives. I am not so sure who in the government is responsible to ensure regular supply of medicines to these mentally ill people at this time of difficult situation. There must be an increasing number of such cases in the country suffering from anxiety and depressio...

Say no to this opportunist leader

Say no to this opportunist leader It seems to me that, as one of the voters and responsible citizen, the senior leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP} is grossly misusing its political power and mandate of the majority of the people by displaying self-centered and destructive politics. This unwanted and unproductive political and egoistic behaviour of the senior leaders is tremendously affecting the nation and its people in many ways. There are numerous national issues to deal with other than its factional politics. The country is completely engrossed with pandemic corona virus. Tens of thousands of people are being affected and the number of infected persons is gradually increasing by day and as of now 235 people have already lost their lives due to this pandemic. But, they are busy in their vestigial political interests. The egoistic politics and power tussle of the two chairpersons of NCP is going on for the last several months flexing their political muscles based...
