Lockdown effect on the children

Lockdown effect on the children

I was going through today’s (June 11/2020) The Kathmandu Post and my eyes were focused on Shubham Dhungana’s interesting article about the effect of on-going lockdown on the children.  I have a 11 years old granddaughter who is in class Six at a private school. She is attending on-line classes starting from eight o’clock in the morning to one o’clock in the afternoon with one hour gap in each one hour session. Both my wife and I have teaching background which has been a plus point for us to guide and engage her with caution.  She is enjoying her on-line classes and has upgraded her reading, writing and speaking skills.  We let her talk to her friends over Viber to be in touch with them. We let her watch television and encourage her to listen to music and songs to her liking and dance if she feels doing so. This may not possible for all the children and their parents.

I hope the government will seriously look into this scary situation and bring up proactive program packages for all sectors including education so that the effect of lockdown on the majority of the population and their children could be minimized.

As the Covid-19 pandemic wreaks havoc around the world, the ongoing lockdown in Nepal has been especially hard for adolescents and teenagers. The lockdown, which has been ongoing for more than two months now, has led to limited social and physical activities among children which, mental health experts say, could trigger anxiety and psychological distress.
