SOUNDS OPTIMISTIC

The Oli led government is set to establish an Immediate Problem Solving Centre at the Prime Minister’s Office which will be known as the “Action Room” in order to address legal, institutional and administrative issues at priority projects and service delivery of the government and its agencies (“Government to set up ‘Immediate Problem Solving Centre’ July 22, Page 2) . As the prime minister, Baburam Bhattaria too had started the “Hello Sirkar” programme, with the intention of addressing people’s problem and concerns. However, the programme could not be effective due to several reasons.

Over the years, Nepal has passed through many political changes which taken place based on the whims of the political leaders and their parties. However, these changes have failed to bring about substantial improvements in the social and economical sectors and the demands of the common people. Now, the rich have become richer and the poor have become poorer. This widening gap cannot be justified as an encouraging indicator for the country that has entered into a new political structure. The sovereign people who have shed blood and sacrificed their lives at the false promises of the political leaders deserve better than this. The people deserve sincere, responsible and accountable leaders.

We had high hopes of seeing a stable government which would drive the nation towards lasting peace and prosperity. All the political parties fought the elections showcasing their highly ambitious political manifests. They voted enthusiastically in both the provincial and the federal elections with majority of the voters voting for leftist alliance comprising of the UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre. These parties later on merged as the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) which is now running the country under the premiership of KP Oli. This federal government has completed its five months period sharing ambitious dreams, but has unsurprisingly given unsatisfactory results. Looking closely at the past five months, it seems that it has started taking things for granted which is no way of running a government.

The intention of this Centre seems promising. However, its effectiveness with regard to addressing the problems and issues fully depend on the sincerity and commitment of the PM and his office.
