NO MORE FUN

NO MORE FUN

It was extremely painful to read the news report (“PM Oli spends 1.2m in food, entertainment” 25 Nov. Page 2, The Kathmandu Post) at a time when the nation is facing acute shortages of fuel and essential commodities caused by India’s unofficial trade embargo and Madhes unrest. What a shame is this on him who, before occupying Baluwatar, had promised to the people that he would leave no stone unturned to emancipate the nation and its people from the ongoing hardships. He already completed five weeks plus of his highest political helm doing nothing except trying to buy time for suppressing the constitutional and political inequalities being faced by Madhes and Tarai based people, which could be detrimental both for him and the nation. His recent address to the nation was nothing but a bundle of false promises. There were no concrete plans and programmes to tackle the ongoing issues.

Black marketing in fuel and other essential items is rampant (“19 pumps charged for duping clients” 25 Nov page 1). The prices of all the essential items have skyrocketed. It is surprising to see that the petrol, diesel and cooking gas, which are not distributed by NOC and dealers citing unofficial trade embargo, are abundantly available in the black market. Where do these petroleum products come from? What are the concerned authorities responsible for checking these unlawful activities doing? It seems that all the government machinery are directly or indirectly involved in these unwanted activities forcing the general people pay high price for survival during this difficult situation. What a pity?

His government has completely failed to manage the daily state affairs pushing it towards becoming a failure state on one side and he himself is milking the state coffers for his entertainment on the other side. It is very sad to see our PM is lavishly spending people’s tax paid money without realising the current political and economical situation of the country. He should have not wasted any time in resolving the Madhes problem rather seems to suppress it with guns and batons. No body wins if the current Madhes agitation goes out of hands of the government and agitating parties. Time has come for him to be serious and set aside his political ego for resolving the current problems at the soonest possible keeping the nation and its people at the centre.
