Scary situation
It has not been surprising to hear from the
oppositions repeatedly saying that the ruling parties are flexing their
political muscle based on the number of their law makers in the CA which might
create political polarizations among them hampering the ongoing constitution
drafting process. In a meeting with the representatives of Federation of Nepali
Journalists recently in his residence, Dahal had opined that the constitution
drafting process was in a complicated stage as reported in ”Constitution
drafting in a difficult stage, says UCPN-Maoist boss”(THT, 19 Nov. Page 4) due
to undermining the past agreements by the ruling parties.
Looking closely at these political
situations that are gradually developing in the Nepali politics, the chances of
drafting the new constitution within the dead line seem dismal. What happens if
the mandated job is not done by the political parties has been the concern of
the common people. As claimed by Dahal, is there any possibility of reviving
the 1990 constitution? Does this mean that the revival of monarchism is not far
from the reality? Does that indicate that the oppositions are loosing their
feet on the political grounds? Was he indicating that the chances of political
confrontations among the political parties cannot be ruled out? If so, it is
yet to see that who wins the political game and who will loose.
The need of the time is that all the
political parties rise above their petty and self-centred party politics and
create a conducive political environment for coming to consensus on the major
issues of the new constitution. If they failed to do so and continue playing
blame game, it is for sure that the nation will plunge into political crisis
which might ruin all the achievements achieved during second peoples’ movement.
Time is running out fast for both the ruling and opposition parties to act
sensibly and responsibly for the sake of themselves and the nation.
