It was not surprising to see the CPN-UML
unveiling its election manifesto like others as reported in “CPN-UML unveils
its manifesto” (THT, 23 October, Page 1). All the major political parties have
their own interesting and instigating agendas to lure the voters. However, they
have still major differences over the unresolved issues namely 1) state
restructuring 2) forms of governance and 3) federalism that remained to be the
bone of contention during the first CA election. As a result, they failed to
draft the new constitution. How do they sort out these outstanding issues
during the second CA election and guarantee for drafting the new constitution?
How can they assure the voters and the general people about their commitment to
draft the new constitution within one year?
None of the major political parties have
publicly confessed about their total failure in fulfilling earlier promises
made to the people in their previous manifestos. What could be the assuring
points for the voters to vote for the political parties? Considering the false
promises made in the previous CA election, the voters need to be more careful
this time as to whom they need to vote. May be, they need to carefully look at
the background and competencies of the candidates before casting their valuable
votes.
As for the political parties, simply unveiling
their political manifestos before the election does not give any sense unless
they sincerely respect their promises in real terms. In FM talk programs, almost
all the callers criticize the major political parties for their false promises
made during the first CA election. None of them seemed serious in implementing about
their promises. However, the CA-2 election is almost at the door. It is still
doubtful whether the election will be peacefully held looking at the ongoing
intra- and inter-party scuffles taking place among the cadres. And, whether the
outcome of the election will be acceptable to all the stakeholders is yet to
see?
