Sheer neglect

The Himalayan Times 31 October2013 Sheer neglect This is reference to the news report “Dalits point to leaders’ ‘ill actions’ (THT, 30 Oct. Page 6) that was painful to read and feel about as to how Dalits are looked upon and treated by the political parties and the state. Bajura is one of the districts of Nepal where 35 % of the total population are Dalit. They are the most marginalized communities in the country with almost no easy access to education, health, employment and other state facilities. For them, managing two square meals a day have been their primary concern. Neither the government officials nor any one from any political parties have so far visited their area. The country is now in the grip of election fever. Almost all the political parties have made their election manifestos public with lot of promises. However, none of such promises made during the previous elections were fulfilled. In this second CA election, most of the big political parties see...

Pepper Spray

I am not so sure about the availability of Pepper Spray in Kathmandu . This is commonly used for self defense purpose and also used for controlling riots. I have read police elsewhere found using this spray during demonstration or for controlling riots. Elsewhere in the world this has been a good tool for self defense in case of criminal attacks, dog and wild animal attacks. This spray is widely used by women for their safety as the self defense purpose. While I was looking for more information about this, I found this site http://www.defenderpepperguns.com . Fulfill poll promises

The Himalayan Times 24 October 2013 It was not surprising to see the CPN-UML unveiling its election manifesto like others as reported in “CPN-UML unveils its manifesto” (THT, 23 October, Page 1). All the major political parties have their own interesting and instigating agendas to lure the voters. However, they have still major differences over the unresolved issues namely 1) state restructuring 2) forms of governance and 3) federalism that remained to be the bone of contention during the first CA election. As a result, they failed to draft the new constitution. How do they sort out these outstanding issues during the second CA election and guarantee for drafting the new constitution? How can they assure the voters and the general people about their commitment to draft the new constitution within one year? None of the major political parties have publicly confessed about their total failure in fulfilling earlier promises made to the people in their previous manifestos. W...

Self defense

In the 21 st century people are much conscious about their safety considering the crime rate that continues to increase due to various reasons. In order to be safe from such unwanted crimes, individuals have started taking precautions in many ways. Self defense has been necessary to make oneself safe from criminal acts. There might be several techniques to be learned in self defense. I am not so sure so much about all the techniques. However, to name them, I remember few of them. For example, learning different kinds of martial arts is one of the preferred self defense techniques. While I was looking for more information about the self defense, I found this site  http://www.smartstun.com . If you have similar information, please share here. Many thanks. On Line Jobs

Confusion continues

On line jobs The Himalayan Times 13 October 2013 Time has come for the voters to think twice before voting to their preferred political party and candidate considering the outcome of 2008 CA election. They should deeply assess the roles played by their favoured political parties during the last five years. They should try to find out whether their votes were properly utilized for the well-being of the nation and its people as promised by the political parties. It is hoped that this time the voters will use their common sense and vote accordingly to the appropriate candidate so their votes would not go wasted. Considering this, the end result of this second CA election might show opposite trend to that of 2008 election result as reported in “Will ’08 results indicate voting trends this time? (THT, 10 October, Page 1). However, who knows the inner conscience of each voter? I think the voters must have now realized that casting votes to a political party would not simply ...

Worried

The Himalayan Times 3 October 2013 Worried Nepali citizens seem worried about the future of their nation because of the on-going political polarization among the so called big political parties who continue to flex their political muscles for their own sake. It seems that the country is sooner or later going to enter into another phase of political and social conflicts. The Maoist led 32 political parties do not seem to budge from their initial demand of Regmi’s resignation from the position of Chief Justice (CJ), while Regmi says he won’t resign. This has remained a sticking point as to whether the CPN-M will take part in November 10 election or not. After coming back from attending UN general assembly in New York , Regmi still thinks that the proposed election will be held on the stipulated date. How can he even think of holding the CA election by sidelining the 33 political parties and using the security forces? For whose sake, is the Regmi government determin...

Referendum

Give the sovereign people of Nepal an opportunity to express their sincere opinion on the following agenda through “Referendum” rather than imposing big parties' political manifestations upon the people through the so-called Constitutional Assembly Election.   Should Nepal be a secular state or non secular state? Should Nepal be federated or not? If federated, what type of federal state should be? Should Nepal be a republic state or a state with constitutional monarchy and multiparty democracy? Based upon the outcome of this referendum, draft the new constitution accordingly involving 10/12 constitutional experts. Hold the parliamentary election and endorse the new constitution by the parliament. Why all these fussy and messy politics? What you say?
