Childish act

Childish act

It has been a childish play for the so called High Level Political Committee (HLPC) to amend the Interim Constitution (IC) as and when needed to suit their taste. On the other side, it seems that the President is dancing to their tune as reported to “Prez nod to poll ordinance” (THT, 19 September Page 1). Earlier, they had agreed to retain the CA number to 491 after facing wide criticism from the public and the President had accordingly given his approval. While signing the agreement with the Upendra Yadav led agitating parties, they had agreed to increase the number of CA member to 585 from 491. Now, the number has been increased to its old number of 601. What a shame on these so called big parties who seem playing with the future of New Nepal?

The ongoing political situation does not seem favourable for the second CA election that will be held in free and fair manner. CPN-Maoist led 32 parties alliance is in the mood of disrupting the election by any means. On the side, the ruling parties and the government are in a mood to suppress the agitating parties by using state security forces. What an unfortunate it is to see the political parties, who had promised to the people of peaceful and prosperous New Nepal, flexing their political muscle for their own party cantered politics rather than for the nation and its people. It seems that the big parties are playing dirty game  of putting all the blame to the agitating parties if the CA election would be not be held as scheduled due to uncontrolled law and order situation.

The people have started showing their concerns whether the end result of the second CA election will bear any fruit if it is even held as scheduled without the participation of such a huge number of agitating parties. Would not it be wise for the government and the HLPC to hold the CA election only after bringing the agitating parties on board by using win-win negotiating strategy? If they (HLPC) can amend the Interim Constitution (IC) whenever they like, why don’t they amend it now to satisfy the demand of the agitating parties to pave the way for Regmi to resign from the position of Chief Justice who has been saying that he cannot do so because of the provision made in the IC and hold the election under the same care taker government?
