Revival of monarchy

It was not surprising to read the news report “RPP-N chief foretells monarchy’s revival (THT, 19 June, Page 5) considering the insensible and immoral political acts of so called senior leaders of major political parties. Looking closely at their political activities during the last 6 years, the republicans seemed completely disoriented in institutionalizing second jana andolan achievements. They have completely failed on all costs-from nation building to constitution writing to the preservation of national integrity and social harmony to maintenance of law and order to good governance to economic developments. They continued to make mistakes and ignore the plight of the common people. They found to be engaged in power politics and blame game undermining the universally accepted democratic norms and values. They spent the first four years after the Second Jana Andolan most unproductively. They proved themselves ineffective. The constituent assembly was forcefully made to end without drafting much awaited new constitution.

What more is needed to lose the trust of the common people towards the republicans? It may not mean that the then King will come to rescue the nation in the near future. However, it cannot be completely ruled out the possibilities looking closely at the on-going political scenario of the country. The political parties are found completely polarized engaging themselves in isolating one another. Branding reactionary forces to each other continue to be their regular political slogan. They have not made any progress and do not seem serious in sorting out their political differences that had remained to be the bone of contention for unsuccessful completion of first CA. Now, we are talking about holding second CA election. How will it be possible to hold the second CA election without solving the problems those had been the stumbling blocks for drafting the new constitution?

Time seems to be running out for the senior leaders to be sensible and responsible to make reconciliations among them putting the nation and people at the centre stage and work cohesively towards resolving the outstanding issues related to drafting the new constitution. Otherwise, sooner or later they will be beaten by the people’s mandate or people’s might if they continue to act irresponsibly and insensibly. If they don’t timely act, it might be too late for them to realize their political mistakes.
