Who to believe?

The Himalayan Times

I am sure the common people like me must have been confused over the contradictory remarks made by the so-called senior leaders of both the opposition parties and coalition government about holding poll in Jestha 2069 as reported in “NC, UML averse to poll: Dahal” (THT, Jan.30, Page 5) and “UCPN-M reluctant to face elections, says Paudel” (THT, Jan. 30, Page 5). They are being heard regularly blaming each other for not being serious in holding the election.  Accusing each other has been their political propaganda these days rather than being serious in collectively solving the national problem. Who are they being driven and directed by has been the peoples concern. Otherwise, why don’t they try to find out the comprising point to hold the election on time and emancipate the nation from the on-going political and constitutional crisis?

None of the political parties will benefit out of by flexing their political muscles at this critical time when the nation is politically passing through a precarious situation. If they continue to engage in confrontational politics, the chances of safe guarding and institutionalising the political achievement of second jana andolan seem dismal.

The opposition seems hesitant to go along with different proposals put forward by the parties in the coalition government for forging consensus and forming the unity government. Looking closely at this situation, it does not seem that they would easily forge consensus and form a national government in near future. If this situation of political mistrust among the major parties continue to persist, the proposed election may not be possible to hold on Jestha 2069 pushing the nation towards serious political and constitutional crisis that could invite the nation becoming a failed state.
