SHATTERING ALL HOPES

The Himalayan Times
2 March 2012

Looking at the on going political situation, it seems that the major political parties would not be able to complete the peoples’ mandated task within the dead line. They have completely failed to forge consensus on the contentious issues and work cohesively to emancipate the nation from political uncertainty and disintegration. The so-called big three parties have socially and economically made the nation and the people their political hostages. The national integrity, sovereignty and identity of Nepal have been badly shattered because of their immoral and irresponsible political acts. Rampant corruption has completely plagued the nation.

The government and the political parties are busy in power games and do not heed people’s plight. Uncontrolled deforestations in the tarai areas have been badly polluting the quality of environment making the international community much worried about. Criminals, thugs and gundas are enjoying the state coffers under the patronage of the major political parties. The common people, who earn their livelihood through labour, have been made second class citizen of Nepal

The senior leaders of major political parties do not seem concerned with the hardships of the common people. They continue to entangle themselves in the self centered politics ignoring the fast approaching dead-line for the completion of twin tasks. They are knowingly or unknowingly instigating the common people towards social confrontation in the name of federalism. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai led coalition government has completely failed to serve the people.

Is not it surprising to know that UML plans to gather more than 2 lacks people in Khula Manch in the name of showing their political strength when they are supposed to concentrate their time on peace process and drafting of new constitution? Likewise, Maoist party has too also decided to mobilize the general public all across the country to press political parties to promulgate ‘pro-people’ constitution as reported in “Maoists to press for peace, constitution” (THT, Feb. 29, Page). What are these parties trying to portray to the general public?
