Bringing thousands of cadres and innocent rural people with this or that purpose to Khula Mach in Kathmandu to show their political strength is not new for major political parties. This time, it was UML’s turn to bringing huge number of people to Khula Manch from surrounding villages and districts at the onset of their three-day National Representative Council (NRC) meeting as outlined in the editorial “Still searching” (THT, March 6, Page 6). According to them, the purpose of the mass gathering was to exert pressure to other political parties for timely completion of peace process and promulgation of new constitution within the dead-line. Was it a genuine reason for the said purpose or simply to camouflage the political and personal tussles that were going on within the party for long time?
The leaders claimed that their party stands at number one party in the midst of the common people. It seemed that they miscalculated the inner feelings of general public who were and are completely frustrated with their intra party political tussles and self-centered politics. UML leaders spent most of their time on egoistic politics rather than focusing their political strengths towards addressing people’s hardships. The poor roles of UML played while reigning in power were enough for the people to understand about their (UML) political conviction. They were swayed away towards their personal political interests.
UML has to set an example by punishing its cadres who were and are involved in criminal activities sending positive massages to the general public if it wants to move in the path of being a “first political force”. Recently, its one of the district members in Dang district, who was nabbed by the traffic police for violating traffic rules, created hue and cry situation under the protection of his mother-organization. As a result, dozens of traffic police decided to resign in mass. Not a single word came out of UML’s senior leaders’ mouth with regard to this incident. This is merely an example of how the party (that claims to be the first party) cadres are disciplined and oriented towards moral responsibilities.
