POLITICAL THREAT

The Himalayan Times 17 February 2012 The people are not surprised to hear from Maoist Chairman Prachanda about embracing another people’s revolt if other parties tried to revive the 1990 constitution while celebrating 17 th people’s war at Khulamanch in Kathmandu as reported in “Dahal threatens revolt if 90’s constitution revived’ (THT, February 14, Page one). Was it a threat to the other political parties? Was it a threat to the common people who do not follow them? They (common people) are completely tired and exhausted of hearing about “revolt” in their own name? Other political parties have also been playing deceptive politics in the people’s name. The country is on the verge of becoming a failure state. It does not seem, looking at the on-going political situation, that the new constitution will be drafted by the deadline. Was it the reason Maoist Supremo publicly telling that they would not abide by the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the termination of Constituent ...

POLITICAL POLARIZATION

The Himalayan Times 10 February 2012 Political polarizations among the Big Three have again surfaced due to unilateral decisions of UCPN-M led coalition government to legalize wartime transactions among others. The opposition parties, NC and UML, have vocally objected the government’s move disrupting the daily affairs of parliamentary session for the last three consecutive weeks. The government does not seem considering correcting its unilateral decisions. The irresponsible acts of the government have created confrontational political environment that could be detrimental to timely completion of both peace and new constitution drafting processes. Giving seven days ultimatum to the government by the oppositions seems a serious political threat that could be fatal to transitional period if both the oppositions and the government would remain adamant to their political egos. The oppositions, the government and the UCPN-M have to sincerely bear in mind that this is not the appropriate ...

REVOLT THREAT

The Kathmandu Post 10 February 2012   A political threat from one of the cabinet members is shocking (“Revolt brewing in Madhes: Gupta” February 8, Page Three). Why don’t not he himself and other Madhes-based ministers make any attempt to implement the past agreements while they are in political helms? For whose cause, do Madhes- based political leaders continue to threaten with political revolt? It is time for all the political parties including Madhes-based parties to leave aside their petty political interest. They have to cohesively work together to complete the people’s mandated twin tasks of peace process and constitution within the dead-line. Rai Biren Bangdel Maharjgunj, Kathmandu

Deceptive Politics

Listening to Anarsingh Karki over a FM talk program a few days ago, I was pretty nervous and had goose bumps all over my body thinking that, if he was true, we would remain no more Nepali if the Big Three continued to play deceptive politics with each other, I was fortunate to get the telephone line in the next talk program with the same FM and tell the program host to retransmit the Karki’s talk program for second time so that more Nepali would have an opportunity to hear about the intention of 12 point agreement that was signed among the then seven parties in Delhi, India almost six years ago. According to him, both NC and UML, who repeatedly claim to be the champions of democracy, had already loosened their trousers and shed their democratic skins while signing the 12 point agreement with UCPN (M) who used to claim to be against the parliamentary system. This unnatural partnership among the then seven parties was a blow to disturb the peaceful existence of sovereign Nepal and ...
